The Sistelo Walkways Trail begins at the medieval bridge of the River Vez, passing through wooden bridges and follows stone paths next to the River Vez and ends at Cruzeiro da Aldeia de Sistelo, parish of Sistelo, Municipality of Arcos de Valdevez, Northern Portugal

Sistelo Walkways Trail (PR25 – Arcos de Valdevez);
Distance: 2 km;
Circular: yes;
Technical Difficulty: Easy;
Departure/Arrival Location: Cruzeiro da Aldeia de Sistelo.
The walker who is not in a hurry and has no physical limitations and enjoys walks in nature walks along the Passadiços do Sistelo combined with the Ecovia do Vez starting at the Ponte Medieval de Vilela.

The walker will already cover 11 km and will have to overcome a difference in level of 200 meters, which will result in a much more complete day of walking.

Walkers will discover the brand new Passadiços Lagoas do Vez (opened in April 2021), which is the new route of the Ecovia do Vez and the Poço das Caldeiras River Beach.

The route is linear and in order to avoid covering 22 km you will have to deal with some logistical issues: light and comfortable backpack, shoes suitable for hiking, food and plenty of water, sunscreen, sunglasses and a hat.

If you visit in the summer, don't forget your bathing suit because the Sistelo river beach is irresistible, waterproof/raincoat (we're in Gerês, so it can rain at any time), a camera or a smartphone to record the best moments of the walk and a bag to bring your trash with you.

The circular route of the Trilho dos Passadiços do Sistelo involves crossing the River Vez next to Praia Fluvial do Sistelo (through a type of dike) but if you go in winter (in spring or autumn after heavy rains) the passage is most likely to be submerged.

The walker will have to cross the Rio Vez Medieval Bridge in order to reach the Sistelo Walkways and then return to Aldeia do Sistelo along the same route.

Despite the name, the trail, officially marked as PR25 – AVV, is an integral part of the Ecovia do Vez that connects Arcos de Valdevez to Sistelo over 32km, it is not entirely on walkways.

In fact, the wooden walkways built along the Vez River were not even 1km long.

Still, it is a very beautiful tour that starts and ends in the village of Sistelo and is perfect for those who like traveling with children.

The first part of the trail takes place in a village environment, crossing some houses and walking along stone paths shaped by the wheels of old ox carts.

The beginning of the wooden walkways built along the Vez River is the most attractive part of a small route called Trilho dos Passadiços de Sistelo.

In the final part of the Trilho dos Passadiços de Sistelo, returning to the village, the visitor passed through vineyards and cultivated fields, crossed the river and began to climb towards the village.
