The Funchal-Monte Cable Car connects the old town of Funchal (Madeira Island, Portugal) to Monte in approximately 15 minutes, offering a panoramic view of the city along the way.

The Cable Car is made up of 42 cabins with 8 seats each, operated by a single-cable cable car system with a detachable clamp.

Construction of the Funchal-Monte Cable Car began in September 1999 and was inaugurated in November 2000, the route was designed with the aim of recovering the tourist role of the Monte Train that existed in 1887-1943.

The cable is 3178 m long and 43 mm thick and is based on 11 conical metal towers that maintain a distance of 5.5 m between the two branches of the cable, some implemented in the middle of the urban network.

The longest span is 550 m, between the towers (the tallest at 39 m) and 4 with the cable branches exceptionally 6.5 m apart from each other, the motorization located at the base station has a power of 302 kW.

The base station is located in the Almirante Reis garden, in the historic area of ​​Funchal, with the top being on Monte, halfway between Largo das Babosas and Jardins do Monte.

This location has a pedestrian connection with the top terminal of the Jardim Botânico Cable Car and is not far from the Monte station of the Comboio do Monte rack railway, which was discontinued in 1943.

On the cable car over the city where the building coexists with the gardens and vegetable gardens, enjoy the amphitheater and the bay of Funchal in a setting of blues, greens and oranges.

Currently, the Funchal Cable Car offers its passengers a ride to observe the landscape in a 360º panorama, comfortably seated with a window seat in a total of 39 cabins with 7 seats each.
