It is located in the Autonomous Region of the Azores, on the island of Flores, belonging to the western group of the archipelago, being the westernmost tip of Europe, Portugal

The municipality of Santa Cruz das Flores is one of the two that make up Flores Island, with around 2500 individuals living there (2003).

The oldest reference to this municipality dates back to 1548, narrating the arrival of the crew of the ship Nossa Senhora da Misericórdia.

In 1841 the town of Santa Cruz became the only district of Flores and Corvo.

In the brief period between 1895 and 1898, the municipality was extinguished.

Some of the natural formations worth highlighting in the municipality are: the islets of Maria Vaz, Abrões and Monchique, Pico da Burrinha, Monte das Cruzes and the volcanic craters Caldeira Comprida and Caldeira Negra.

The main activity is agriculture, although the influence of the Gulf Stream brings frequent storms.

The municipality is limited to the south by the municipality of Lajes das Flores, to the north by the Atlantic Ocean, which separates it from the municipality of Vila Nova do Corvo, and to the west by the Atlantic Ocean, which separates it from the municipality of Santa Cruz da Graciosa, occupying an area of 72.1 km2, distributed across four parishes: Caveira; Cedars; Ponta Delgada and Santa Cruz das Flores.

The climate in this region is mild and humid, with average temperatures ranging between 14 ºC and 22 ºC. The island is already influenced by the Gulf Stream, which is why it is subject to frequent storms and rain.

Precipitation is regular throughout the year, being responsible for soil fertility and the existence of some water resources, such as the Barrosas stream and the Alquevins, Minho, Monte Gordo and Pau Pique do Lameiro Pomar streams.

The relief is characterized by basalts, projection materials and andesites. It is possible to find the following geological formations: the islets of Maria Vaz, Monchique, Furado and Abrões, Monte das Cruzes (211 m), Testa da Igreja (812 m), Pico da Burrinha (887 m), Pico da Sé (772 m), Caldeira Negra and Caldeira Comprida (volcanic craters) and the tip of Albernaz.
