Praia de São João is located north of Costa de Caparica and south of Cova do Vapor, parish of Trafaria, municipality of Almada, district of Setúbal, Central Portugal
 
In the past, more than twenty years ago, people went wild camping and walked to Trafaria and it was frequented by young people and people with little means called "hardy".

The land was purchased by Urbanização Praia do Sol, which in the late 90s began demanding payment at the entrance to the beach, which generated controversy and opposition.

It is currently a very popular beach among people from Cascais and the Lisbon elite because it is quieter and more restricted.

São João da Caparica beach has an excellent bathing area with strong waves that allow you to practice surfing and also other sports such as crossfit and fitness.

São João da Caparica Beach has a very long sandy area of ​​around 1.4 km and one part is quiet for swimming and the other part is for surfers and is a 20-minute drive from the Center of Lisbon.

The sand is divided into several areas from north to south according to each beach bar: São João da Caparica (North): 1- Praia do Sol Nascente, 2- Praia da Palmeira, 3- Praia do Sol, 4- Praia do Tubarão.

São João da Caparica (south): 1- Praia do Tubarão (second beach bar), 2- Praia do Búzio, 3- Praia da Malhação, 4- Praia do C.C.L. (Lisbon Camping Club), 5- Beach G.N.R Beach (Republican National Guard).

The names of these areas are subject to change according to the administration of each beach bar.

The parish boundary between Trafaria and Costa da Caparica crosses the sand in the middle, meaning the beach is also known as Praia de São João da Caparica (North) and Praia de São João da Caparica (South).

The beach is delimited to the south by a pier that extends approximately 225 meters into the sea and the green of Mata dos Franceses 1 to the east brings a natural scent to the beach when the wind is favorable.

To the south there is also another pier about 150 meters long near the INATEL 2 Campsite and the Lisbon 3 Campsite.

In the north it is delimited by a jetty that goes approximately 225 meters into the sea and to the east the green of Mata dos Franceses brings a country scent to the beach.

To the south there is another pier about 150 meters long where the INATEL Camping Park and the Lisbon Camping Club are located and in the distance you can see the Torre de São Lourenço or the Torre do Bugio.

A clean beach and it is in a completely wild area and integrated into nature that is keen to protect, protect the dunes, there is always parking for cars and space on the sand.

The beach has a car park (you have to pay for it), some top quality bars-restaurants, a guarded beach with a lifeguard during the bathing season, an area with sun loungers and umbrellas, toilets and showers.

The attractions are: Cova do Vapor Beach, Floresta dos Franceses, INATEL Campsite, Lisboa Camping Club, Torre de São Lourenço (Torre do Bugio), GNR Social Services Holiday Camp, Praia de São João, Praia dos Macanudos, Praia do Norte and Praia de Santo António.
