Located in the parish of Oeiras and São Julião da Barra, Paço de Arcos and Caxias, in Oeiras, Greater Lisbon, district of Lisbon, Central Portugal
In 1876 Paço de Arcos was one of the most famous beaches in the Lisbon region where Ramalho Ortigão reported that it was "the aristocratic beach in the suburbs of Lisbon" although he wonders about the application of the concept of aristocracy in Portugal.
In the words of the writer of the Bather's Guide, at the time there were few houses, the marginal was the main street and the trees and the Arcos Palace that gave the place its name could be seen.
Today, a hotel also stands out due to its yellow color. For example, King D. Manuel stayed in the palace and one of the places he frequented was the garden, which has a magnificent balcony overlooking the sea.
Access to the garden is public, a refuge with several statues of Portuguese poets and poets, on the balcony we see the small boats leaning on the sand of Praia Velha which in the past was chosen by the nobility and the crown, it was the chic beach.
The beach is surrounded by the Navy Lighthouse Directorate, the Escola Superior Náutica Infante D. Henrique and the Military Electronics Center located in what was the Fort of São Pedro de Paço de Arcos.
Paço de Arcos Beach is located approximately 400m from the historic center of Paço de Arcos, served by Avenida Marginal and Paço de Arcos Station (Cascais Line), integrated into Greater Lisbon and one of the most Atlantic bathing beaches in the Tagus Estuary.
The place has a small urban beach with quality water suitable for swimming, very popular in winter with surfers and bodyboarders.
Paço de Arcos Beach, also known as Praia Nova, has a very large sandy area that is home to a large number of bathers who also use the rocky area that extends to Fontainhas next to Forte das Maias.
The beach has restaurant services, but the proximity to the center of Paço de Arcos allows other alternatives such as transport by car or train using the town station.
The beach is supervised with lifeguards, a support structure for bathers, daily mechanical and manual cleaning is guaranteed, toilets, showers with walkways, selective waste disposal structures and beach eco-ashtrays.
Currently, it is on this beach that the Oeiras promenade ends. At night, the large boats, all lit up, are authentic floating cities and good for sea trips.
