The fishing village located between a vast pine forest and the sea was a pioneer in tourist exploration in the Algarve with the construction of one of the first hotels in the region in the 60s (Hotel Vasco da Gama) and for decades a destination of choice for the Portuguese aristocracy and famous people (Ingrid Bergman).

After the Carnation Revolution of 1974 it became a favorite destination for the Portuguese middle class to spend their summer holidays.

An extensive and beautiful beach with a mild climate and several pedestrian areas in Portuguese cobblestone, it is one of the main tourist destinations in the Algarve.

The fact that it is located in a bay makes the sea calm and one of the safest beaches for children in the Algarve.

Monte Gordo offers leisure activities such as the casino, a large number of bars and restaurants where you can enjoy Algarve cuisine rich in local fish and seafood.

Monte Gordo Bay has the longest beach with fine, golden sand and the mildest temperature in Southern Europe due to its location close to the mouth of the Guadiana River facing the Atlantic and the warm Mediterranean currents.

Monte Gordo was an old fishing village and a pioneering place for tourism in the Algarve with the construction of one of the first hotels in the region.

Monte Gordo has a wide promenade closed to car traffic and allows for peaceful walks along the sea.

Now the colorful boats and their fishing gear are limited to one section of the beach, with the rest of the beach occupied by restaurants, bathing facilities and sports areas.

The environment is warmer and brighter than what is found in the Algarve and the sea is known for its tranquility and warmth.

In the small dunes that are still forming in the busiest section of the beach, only the sea thistle with its thorns can resist the constant trampling.

At the ends of the beach the dunes rise and it is possible to appreciate the rich dune vegetation along the raised walkways that give access to the sand.
