Alvor Beach is located in the wide bay of Lagos inserted in the sandy peninsula that extends for more than 3.5 km to the source of the Ria de Alvor bar, Municipality of Portimão, Algarve, Southern Portugal

The sandy barriers of Alvor allow for the existence of an interior lagoon with salt marsh banks and calm water channels.

The habitat is a sanctuary for numerous species of water birds, whether resident or passing through, and also serves as a maternity ward for many species of fish and molluscs (bivalves, cuttlefish and octopus) of high economic value.

The sandy barrier is immense with a stretch of sand as far as the eye can see: on the seafront you can see delicate plants such as beach hay, starling, sea lamb, Cretan clover or sand daffodil.

The dunes, despite being hot and arid, are home to several species of birds: micro mammals, reptiles and many insects and towards the interior the sands give way to salt marshes and the lagoon appears where sailboats and artisanal fishing boats anchor on the bank of which the picturesque fishing village of Alvor is located.

Alvor Beach has a huge stretch of sand surrounded by excellent hotels with equipment for sailing, water skiing and windsurfing.

The origins of the picturesque fishing village of Alvor date back to the Arab occupation and was then an important port.

Although there are no visible testimonies from that time, it is worth strolling through the historic center of the town and admiring the beautiful portal of the Igreja Matriz in Manueline style.

Nature lovers cannot miss visiting the Ria de Alvor, which is an area of lagoons of international importance and a crossing point for various water birds when they move on their migratory routes between North and South.

The Alvor dune system has been redeveloped and there is now a network of walkways and paths that contribute to the preservation of the dune system and provide access to the beaches and the jetty.

An accessible nature trail offers places to stay and viewpoints allowing you to come into contact with the typical environments of the ria: the dunes and salt marshes.

Alvor Beach has an area with awnings/parasols, toilets, showers, bar/restaurant, car park, supervised beach with lifeguard, light boats for boat trips and Blue Flag.
