According to other sources, he defeated a large Muslim army that surrounded the castle, using the stratagem of previously hiding in the mountains with part of his men, he defeated the enemy with a surprise attack on his camp during the night.
The municipality of Porto de Mós belonged to the Coutos de Alcobaça in 1230, donated by D. Sancho II, influencing the life and habits of this region for many centuries, which was later handed over, by D. João I, to D. Nuno Álvares Pereira and the House of Bragança, after the decisive Battle of Aljubarrota, on August 14, 1385.
The town received a charter from D. Dinis in 1305 and later received a charter from D. Manuel in 1515.
Vila Porto de Mós is located in the Central Region of Portugal, in the heart of the Serras de Aire e Candeeiro Natural Park.
The action of water, as a physical-chemical modeling agent for limestone, created a landscape marked by characteristic relief forms: cliffs and rocky outcrops, “lapiás” fields with karst relief and sinkholes (produced by the superficial dissolution of limestone or dolomitic rocks).
At underground level, caverns (natural vertical openings) stand out, in some cases tens of meters long and which develop in depth through systems of galleries, rooms and wells that together form caves.
The tourist attractions in Vila Porto de Mós are: Castelo de Porto de Mós, Municipal Museum of Porto de Mós, Capela de São Jorge (parish of Calvaria de Cima, Vila de Porto de Mós), Pia do Urso, Source of the River Lis, Lagoa Cova (Porto de Mós), Fórnea - Miradouro (Porto de Mós), Ecopista de Porto de Mós, Equestrian Center of Alcaria (Porto de Mós), Cineteatro de Porto de Mós, Ermida de Santo Estêvão da Fonte do Oleiro, Moinho de S.
