Laços de Amizade Bridge is located over the urban canal and there tourists pose for photos, wave to passing boats and swear of love and friendship by placing colorful ribbons and bows on the bridge railings.

The bridge, over the Canal do Cojo, connecting the Forum to Largo do Mercado Manuel Firmino, gained its popular name due to the informal initiative of two university students who, in 2004, began hanging ribbons on the railings of the wooden bridge, as a symbol of love or friendship, leaving the challenge for anyone passing by to repeat the gesture.

In a short time the bridge was filled with colorful ribbons and bows and it became “fashionable” to leave the bow on the bridge, as a testimony of feelings especially among the students who passed through the University of Aveiro.
