Ponta da Ferraria, located in the extreme southwest of São Miguel Island, in Ginetes, Ponta da Ferraria is a mandatory stop for anyone visiting the region.

The island has its origins in volcanic geological phenomena that occurred in past centuries, the beautiful landscapes that make up this place also received strong influences from these phenomena in their geographical formation.

Pico das Camarinhas, 309 meters high, was responsible for the lava fajã of Ponta da Ferraria. Fajã or lava delta is the name given to a land originating from the flow of lava from a coastal cliff towards the sea.

The pseudo crater that resulted in the contact between hot lava and sea water, together with all other events, gave rise to the thermal waters and famous natural pools of Ponta da Ferraria.
