It is located on Rua Cunha, Avintes, City of Vila Nova de Gaia, North of Portugal
The Gaia Biological Park is a protected reserve located in the Febros River valley, in the parishes of Avintes and Vilar de Andorinho.
The space is home to a huge amount of fauna and flora throughout its 34 hectares, recreating its natural habitat, and a variety of recreational and educational activities.
Taking advantage of the agro-forestry area in which it is located, its focus on preserving the region's landscape makes it a living museum of the environmental traits that the municipality's continuous urbanization is losing.
Installed in 1983 by the Vila Nova de Gaia City Council, the Gaia Biological Park initially opened its doors with two hectares.
The Park carried out an ambitious program to improve the conditions for receiving visitors, reopening to the public with a Welcome Center. (1997/1998)
The Gaia Biological Park is the first permanent Environmental Education center in the country and consists of an agro-forestry area in this municipality with 35 hectares where hundreds of species of animals and plants live in the wild.
The Gaia Biological Park is located on the outskirts of the city of Vila Nova de Gaia, parishes of Avintes and Vilar de Andorinho, and extends across the valley of the Febros river, a tributary on the left bank of the Douro, close to which are scattered old rural houses, mills and loofah mills.
In this area of around 50 hectares, a nature discovery trail was established, measuring around 3 km along which visitors' attention is drawn through the information displayed on the various components of Natural and Cultural Heritage.
The Park has a Collection and Recovery Center for Birds and other animals with its own Veterinary Clinic that has returned many wild birds to their lives in freedom.
