The Church of São João Baptista located next to Porta da Vila is one of the most symbolic properties and a reference to the built heritage in Óbidos, ordered to be built by Queen Santa Isabel in 1309 dedicated to Saint Vincent and served as religious assistance to those who suffered most in the Middle Ages, the lepers.

At the beginning of the 16th century, the temple was integrated into the heritage of the Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Óbidos and from October 1636 until liberalism it served as the headquarters of the Parish and Collegiate of São João Batista.

The church entered a profound decline, reemerging today as a space where Art and Religious Heritage will have a place for their dignified expression.

The Óbidos (or São João) Parish Museum will be a meeting point and dialogue between the community and its roots and a factor of cultural growth, combining with the other services of the Museum in Vila de Óbidos.

The Óbidos Parish Museum aims to encourage the study and dissemination of the Church's artistic and historical assets, which are the basis of local culture, expressing it to different audiences: schoolchildren, researchers and visitors.

The exhibition at the Óbidos Parish Museum entitled: Beliefs, Paths and Cults in the Places of Óbidos, the visitor will be able to observe and learn more about liturgical implements, vestments, images, paintings and flags.

The collection present in the Museum at the Parish Museum gives special emphasis to: a painting from the workshop of Josefa de Óbidos from the main church of Vau: Nossa Senhora da Piedade with Santo Antônio de Lisboa, a painting by Baltazar Gomes Figueira from the Church of Nossa Senhora de Monserrate: Adoração dos Magos.
