The Bárrio Monographic Museum, Alcobaça, located in the Bárrio Parish Council, was opened on November 8, 1981 and addresses the diversity of activities of the inhabitants of this parish, ranging from agriculture, livestock and fishing.

The Bárrio Monographic Museum presents as a collection testimonies of the human occupation of the Roman site of Parreitas located in the hills of Bárrio (parish in the municipality of Alcobaça) overlooking the ancient Lagoa da Pederneira.

The Bárrio Monographic Museum also presents in its collection an approach to the Roman Villa of Parreitas, testimony to the passage of Roman civilization through the area, the exhibition and interpretative nucleus “The Romans in Alcobaça”.

The discovery of the Roman passage is due to archaeological excavations and the various studies that the town underwent from the 80s of the last century onwards. The result of this archaeological work can be known and interpreted in this museum space.

The occupation lasted between the 2nd and 5th centuries, heir to occupations that date back to the Chalcolithic period.

The Museum presents as a collection testimonies of the human occupation of the Roman Villa of Parreitas resulting from the excavation and systematic study carried out from 1980 onwards under the direction of Prof. Doctor Pedro Gomes Barbosa.

One of the houses identified in Parreitas presents a Mediterranean typology adapted to the region's climate with outbuildings arranged around a central courtyard.

The collections on display in this Museum reflect the course of the days of a rural population that occupied themselves with domestic activities, agricultural exploration, livestock farming and fishing in Lagoa da Pederneira.

At the headquarters of the Bárrio Parish Council, the pieces found in the excavations of the Parreitas archaeological station are on display.

The Museum presents as a collection testimonies of the human occupation of the Roman Villa of Parreitas resulting from the systematic excavation and study carried out from 1980 onwards under the direction of Prof. Doctor Pedro Gomes Barbosa.

The Roman villa of Parreitas is a perfect testimony to the Roman occupation of Barrio that took place between the 1st and 4th centuries, already humanized from the Chalcolithic period with architecture adapted to the Mediterranean climate prepared around a central courtyard.

The permanent exhibition "The Romans in Alcobaça" aims to highlight the origins of its people by presenting a set of materials that reflect the daily life of the population at the time, such as agriculture, domestic activities, fishing, pottery, weaving, metallurgy, which revealed a very commercially active local economy.
