In this space, through the Museum's 360º virtual room, the Viseu 5.0 Augmented Reality script and other digital content that will be progressively made available where you can carry out an immersive experience through 2500 years of history: the years of life of Vissaium, Vizeu or Viseu.

Viseu's origins may date back to prehistoric times, but the true importance of the city begins in the city of Iron, where an important settlement began to grow and reached its maximum size in the 1st century BC.

The people who inhabited it were essentially made up of shepherds and farmers who explored the territory and found jewelry and other pieces where the political elite would have been established, reflecting contacts with the Mediterranean and Central Europe.

The City History Museum is a project to enhance the history and stories, heritage and heroes, icons and enigmas of Viseu, which are always in a constant movement of investigation and discovery.

Its implementation begins on May 18, 2018 with the inauguration of its first space, an exhibition center on Rua Direita, followed by the opening of the Virtual Center a year later.

The City History Museum project: Exhibition Center, Virtual Center, Cava Interpretive Center, the Viseu Archaeological Center and the Viseu Imago Library.

The Exhibition Center hosts long-term temporary exhibitions that explore the narrative potential of Viseu's heritage.

The Virtual Hub is a multichannel digital platform that allows you to interact with the city's heritage and history through diverse tools and experiences, including virtual visits to exhibitions at the City History Museum, digital content and an Augmented Reality application associated with a city tour itinerary.

The Cava Interpretive Center is a project designed to present and explore the theses, interpretations, investigations and the known history of Cava de Viriato and its valorization as a space for cultural enjoyment of Casa das Águias.

The Viseu Archaeological Pole, as a structure that brings together municipal resources dedicated to the municipality's Archeology, promotes the collection, inventory, investigation and interpretation of archaeological heritage, guaranteeing content and programming resources for different sections of the City History Museum.

The Imagoteca is a structure dedicated to the identification, study and dissemination of iconographic elements relating to Viseu and its municipality: photographs, illustrated postcards and films.

The Imagoteca will function as a resource center for different areas of the City History Museum and territorial communication actions.

The Municipal Imagoteca integrated into the City History Museum launched on May 18, 2018, is a resource center dedicated to the collection, archiving, preservation, digitization and dissemination of documents representing the history of the City such as photographs, illustrated postcards, posters and films dating back to the end of the 20th century.

Its creation constitutes one of the measures of the municipal program “VISEU FIRST 2021” and one of the initiatives foreseen in the action plan “Viseu 2020 Light, Camera and Action”.

The Imagoteca will be based on a collaborative and participatory archive, in the form of a public invitation open to the community to provide physical and/or digital records of historical interest, freely provided by citizens, institutions or companies.

The incorporation of images relating to landscapes, monuments, public events, urban transformations, cultural, social and sporting achievements historically document Viseu.

With regard to film heritage, the Municipality will act in a cooperation agreement with the National Archive of Moving Images (ANIM) of the Cinemateca Portuguesa.
