It is located in Vila do Bombarral, District of Leiria, Central Portugal

Bombarral grew, allowing this tree massif to remain almost intact, today constituting the most important green space in the town.

An old reserve that has existed there since the 15th century, the forest was the scene of hunts for the court that traveled there for this purpose, where we can find statues and tiles from the time.

The Bombarral Municipal Forest is made up of semi-natural formations, since as an urban forest it has always been present through cleaning and opening of paths.

The forest is covered with vegetation that dominated the region for several centuries, some of the species have specimens with absolutely unusual dimensions, with some cork oaks exceeding 20 meters in height.

The Forest reveals itself to be of enormous interest from a natural point of view due to the genetic heritage it contains.

The degree of preservation of the existing vegetation structure in Mata do Bombarral is only paralleled in Arrábida, and the forests there constitute a reference at an Iberian and even global level.

Vegetation studies carried out between 2003 and 2004 identified tree and shrub species typical of Mediterranean forests, including the aderno (Phillyrea latifolia L.), the arbutus tree (Arbutus unedo L.), the cork oak (Quercus suber L.), the executioner (Quercus coccifera L.), the bastard aderno (Rhamnus alaternus L.), the cerquinho oak (Quercus faginea subsp. Broteroi (Cout.), the mastic tree (Pistacia lentiscus L.), the leaf oak (Viburnum tinus L.).

The most emblematic groups include orchids represented by species such as Cephalanthera longifolia (L.) Fritsch, Epipactis helleborine (L.) Crantz and Limodorum trabutianum (Batt.), whose presence highlights an interesting degree of maintenance of ecological characteristics.

The Bombarral Forest can be seen as a typically Mediterranean forest, the Bombarral climate is strongly marked by the proximity of the Atlantic, some species are represented by specimens with absolutely remarkable dimensions.

Mata do Bombarral is a Mediterranean forest measuring around four hectares that was considered an Area of Public Interest in 1941.

The green lung has survived to this day, preserving vegetation for several centuries, such as the gilbardeira (a species on the verge of extinction), aroeira, zambujeiro and cork oaks over 20 meters high.

The most important green space in the city, with a total of around four hectares of forest.

Formerly a hunting ground, it became a private garden, currently a municipal park: an area of ecological balance.
