It is located very close to the city of Torre de Moncorvo, in the North Region and sub-region of Terras de Trás-os-Montes, Braganca District, Northwest of Portugal

In the Trás-os-Montes area there is a territory that, amidst wild mountains and almond groves as far as the eye can see, is bathed in an immense blue that are called “the Lagos do Sabor''''''''.

Lagos do Sabor is characterized by 70 km of crystal clear water that goes from the Baixo Sabor dam to the mouth of Azibo, large lakes connected to each other by gorges and cliffs that form a wildlife sanctuary where the blue of the water merges with the horizon.

Lagos do Sabor was created with the construction of the Sabor River Dam and is becoming the new tourist attraction of Trás-os-Montes.

The landscape changed radically and to give new life to the region and promote the landscape that resulted from the construction of the Lower Sabor dam, the municipalities covered by the reservoir created several circuits around the artificial lakes.

In this place there are more than 200 kilometers through the municipalities of Torre de Moncorvo, Alfândega da Fé, Mogadouro and Macedo de Cavaleiros that allow us to see the water mirror and this unique territory from different angles.

In addition to the landscape and good Trás-os-Montes cuisine, you can also see the griffin hovering on the cliffs, and spot a Bonelli's Eagle on the cliffs or the otter strolling along the river.
The various routes through Lagos do Sabor

The Association of Baixo Sabor municipalities created 3 ideal car circuits to give us a perspective of the enormous diversity that characterizes this territory.

From the lower areas of the Vilariça Valley to the steep cliffs of the upper Sabor, these circuits take us on a journey through a territory almost unknown to most Portuguese, but which has a unique and incalculable value.

In Mogadouro there are beautiful trails to follow, and one of the most famous is the “Trilho do Monóptero” which takes us to one of the visiting points in the municipality, but the most beautiful trail is the “Trilho da Faia d'''' Água Alta” covering around 8.5 km that leads to one of the most beautiful waterfalls in the country which is the “Faia d'''' Água Alta” waterfall.

In Torre de Moncorvo, one of the most famous trails is the “old Sabor line”, which is 34 km of unique beauty that can be done on foot or by bike, and can be divided into several sections.

Another very popular route is the “Rota do Lobo” with 13 km in the interior of Serra do Roboredo and here in this mountain we have the circular “Rota do Corço” with around 12km.

The most beautiful trails are the “Trilho do Sabor'''''''' which goes to Santo Antão da Barca, but it is also one of the privileged places to enjoy the Lagos do Sabor and the “Trilho de Alvazinhos”.

Macedo de Cavaleiros one of the easiest and most beautiful routes is the “Trilho de Ricardo Magalhães” in Santa Combinha.

This circular trail, measuring just over 4 km, follows the “Azibo Dam”, so it counts on two hours of complete delight where there are several trails in the Azibo Dam area, and many of the signposted trails pass through geosites of the “Geopark Terras de Cavaleiros”.
River Beaches

The River Beach of Foz do Sabor (Torre de Moncorvo) and the River Beach of Azibo (Macedo de Cavaleiros), and in fact what there is is an Azibo reservoir that has two river beaches very close to each other: “Praia da Fraga da Pegada” and “Praia da Ribeira”.

Praia da Ribeira was elected one of the 7 Wonders, because it has excellent support equipment, an area with grass, sand, a restaurant and plenty of shade, and both beaches have the accessible beach seal.

In Lagos do Sabor there are several accommodations, and the Lagos do Sabor circuits cross several municipalities, so you can stay in Vale da Vilariça, which is characterized by being a green and calm area, and which is in a strategic point for visitors to move between the various circuits.
