On top of a cliff in the center of Porto are the Crystal Palace Gardens, created at the end of the 19th century, the layout of the gardens was a work designed by the German landscape architect Émile David in the 1860s.

The Jardins do Palácio de Cristal are presented as historic gardens, showing the importance of a green space with plants and aesthetic and utilitarian flower beds providing well-being through a walk through this place.

The Palace Gardens are formed by a wonderful park made up of exotic plants, rose bushes, ornamental shrubs, lawns intertwined with sun-dappled paths, sculptures, giant magnolias, camellias, cypresses and olive trees (huge varieties of trees), fountains functioning as water mirrors, animals such as peacocks, and observe the stunning views over Porto, Gaia and the Douro.

Inside it houses the Rosa Mota Pavilion, a space for sporting events, concert spaces, a children's space, a chapel, the modern Almeida Garrett Library and the Romantic Museum.
The different Gardens of the Palácio de Cristal in Porto

In the Palácio Gardens there are several distinct gardens, each with its own particularity, and there are seven different gardens that make up the 8 hectares of green space overlooking the Douro River in the heart of the city of Porto.

The Émile David Garden is the first garden we see as soon as we pass through the Garden Gates, it is made up of a large space with statues and fountains and it is the Garden that pays homage to the architect responsible for the project.

The Garden of Aromatic Plants or the Garden of Medicinal Plants that have unique and special fragrances.

Avenida das Tílias is equally imposing, and passes by the Almeida Garrett Library, the Concha Acústica and the Capela de Carlos Alberto de Sardenha.

In this landscaped complex, the Jardim dos Sentimentos is worth highlighting as it offers an excellent panoramic view of the Douro River.

The Jardim dos Sentimentos is a themed garden within the Jardins do Palácio de Cristal located in the extreme south, a beautiful space both for its location and privileged views over the riverside area.

In a plane below these benches, and connected to the highest place by a ramp, we found a kind of maze with different flowers and a sign with the feeling they referred to.

The Garden of Feelings is made up of a labyrinth-shaped design where we find several species of plants that refer to feelings such as lily (longing), vine (joy), chaff (envy) and mint (cruelty).

At the west end we find a large bronze statue of a woman sitting on a stepped base overlooking the Douro River, and this image is by the sculptor Teixeira Lopes who represents the feeling of "Pain".

The bush that surrounds this sculpture is called myrtle, it is a plant that symbolically appears linked to pain and has been associated with rituals and ceremonies (the ritual for washing the dead) for millennia.

These gardens also include the Twin Cities Garden and the Roseiral Garden.
