History of Our Lady of the Rosary Parish Church
The Parish Church of the ecclesiastical parish of Marinha Grande, whose patron saint is Nossa Senhora do Rosário, has been the object of several charitable works over the four centuries since its foundation and entry into worship in 1590 in faith in the Couseiro.
The first expansions made to the primitive temple were in 1757 and the transcription of a contract signed between the residents of Marinha and the Bishop of Leiria, D. Pedro de Castilho, the notary is very explicit in designating it as a hermitage designed to house the small community of Marinha at the end of the 1500s.
The primitive 16th century hermitage demolished in 1954, with a clearly 17th century design in a purely rural style, typical of the small hermitages built in rough masonry spread across the entire central coast.
The most important restoration and expansion works on the temple took place in the 19th century, four major major interventions throughout the century during which the temple was completely intervened and remodeled in terms of architecture, aesthetics and volumetric space using the total demolition of the previous structures.
In the century. XIV, with D. Pedro de Castilho as Bishop of Leiria (reign of Philip II of Castile), the residents of Marinha Grande asked their spiritual leader to allow them to build a small chapel under the aegis of Nossa Senhora do Rosário, which was granted.
In the year 1600, the first church built in 1590 became a Parish, it was later demolished in 1804 to rebuild a larger one, which was also demolished in 1969 because it became too small.
The new church designed by António Diniz Baroseiro Júnior was inaugurated on December 8, 1971.

The current building of the Igreja Matriz Nossa Senhora do Rosário
The expansion of the building gave way to the current building, a hall church with modernist lines built from scratch and blessed on December 8, 1971.
A church in which the interior space consists of a single, uniform hall and whose naves have the same height.
Outside, connected to the main chapel, there is a taller bell tower with clocks on the walls, a white roof at the top and topped by a Latin cross.
