The Gruta do Forno de Orca, located at the base of a promontory, next to Praia do Norte, represents a geological history of Nazaré and is closely related between the landscape and the human occupation of the territory.

This cave is a peculiar cave, located at the base of a promontory, hidden by the Forno da Orca Cave, molded into a limestone rock structure, this completely natural cave offers visitors a curious appearance with typical marine erosion.

The cave is only visible when the sea is calm and low, and on those days the visit is usually easy to access, but on high tide days the sea enters the cave violently.

And it was from this constant that it emerged, the waves crashing so violently against the cliff that over time they carved into the limestone at the base the cave today called “Forno de Orca” which in itself constitutes just one of the geological assets of the southern end of this beach, Praia do Norte.

Praia do Norte is very wide, surrounded by pine forests and dunes, and in the cliff the caves hide the “Gruta do Forno da Orca” which is a preserved ecological space. When visiting the beach you will be surprised by the “Duna da Agueira”, one of the highest in Europe.
