It is located on Rua Camilo Castelo Branco, city and municipality of Guarda, Central Portugal
All that remains of the Guarda Castle is the tower that sits at the top of the city and provides a fantastic view over the city and the Serra da Estrela, with special emphasis on the Sé da Guarda building and the city's beautiful garden.
The Ferreiros Tower dates back to the 13th century and was built by King D. Dinis, and has been classified as a National Monument since 1956.
In the historic center of Guarda stands a tall stone tower with an elbow entrance known as "The Blacksmiths' Tower” in a medieval architectural style.
There is also one of the noble entrances to the center of Guarda, which in the past was integrated into the landscape of the walls: “the Porta dos Ferreiros''''.
The Blacksmiths Tower is one of the best preserved parts of the old gates and walls that defended the city of Guarda, and for this reason it is currently classified as a National Monument.
In the tower we can see almost the entire city of Guarda, as it is the highest point in the city where we can see the sunset, the place is small but welcoming, taking beautiful photos of the city, a place with a lot of history, the view from this place is something unique.
The three doors inside guaranteed the security of the town, between them there was a guillotine door, one of the few existing in Portugal.
The Torre dos Ferreiros, in the city of Guarda, will become visitable with the opening of a viewpoint at its top and a panoramic elevator.
Visitors to Guarda will be able to climb the Torre dos Ferreiros and enjoy a 360-degree view of the city and surroundings.
Access to the top of the monument can be done via the stairs inside (from Rua da Torre) or by the panoramic elevator that was installed on one of its sides (accessible from Rua Tenente Valadim).
The New Tower, so named in opposition to the Old tower of the first Romanesque enclosure, and located next to Porta da Covilhã, was demolished in the final years of the 19th century.
The Ferreiros Tower also reveals an elbow plan, with the respective beginnings of attached sections, and is the main reference for the city's fence.
The Ferreiros Gate, to the east, consists of an elbow entrance, protected by the quadrangular tower, with two access bays: one on the west face with a lowered arch on the intrados and a perfect round arch on the extrados, topped by a walkway; another on the south face with a pointed arch on the intrados and a perfect round on the extrados.
In the interior corner, there is an iron grilled niche constituting an oratory under the invocation of the Crucified Christ, known as Lord of the Afflicted.
The intervention is part of the ''Requalification of the central axis of Guarda'' project and aims to make the city more attractive for tourists and residents while simultaneously boosting the local economy.
