Located on Rua do Dr. Bernardino Machado, city of Aveiro, central Portugal

The current Navy of Noeirinha has more than 200 years of history and it is stated in public records that, before 1864, they already produced salt for private use, and there are also plans of the commercial port of Aveiro that prove its limits and its historical existence.

In 2016, Luis looked at Noeirinha and, knowing part of its history, decided to bring back its full potential and relaunched this salt mine using a 100% artisanal process and respecting many of the practices and tools used in the year 959 (the first historical record of salt production in Aveiro) that can guarantee high quality salt.

The Marines or as commonly known as “Aveiro salt flats” are grouped into five distinct groups based on their location: Marines of Monte Farinha, Northern Group, Sea Group, São Roque and Esgueira Group and Southern Group.

Noeirinha belongs to the São Roque group located in one of the richest areas in the history of Aveiro, commonly called “Beira Mar”.

At the Aveiro navy you can take the opportunity to get to know some of the bird species found in Aveiro and take a dip in the natural saltwater pool.

The salt production area and the pool are directly connected to the channels of the Ria de Aveiro, its water being naturally renewed with the rise and fall of the tide, thus enjoying clean and natural water.

By visiting the entire marine area through guided tours by our mariners, you can learn a little more about the history of the salt flat, which includes all the knowledge passed down from generation to generation.

The main objective of the salt mine is to bring back the culture of high quality artisanal salt production, train new marnotos, tell and maintain a story that is already ancient and that over the centuries has transformed Aveiro into an important city for the Portuguese economy as it was recognized throughout Europe for producing salt.

Marinha da Passagem or Ostraveiro is located on the main Channel in front of the old Lota, city of Aveiro, central Portugal.

In Ostraveiro they do aquaculture of oysters, cockles and clams where it is possible to take guided tours of the production and the surroundings of the Ria de Aveiro, also a tourism area where you will find completely ecological boat houses anchored in Marinha da Passagem, and have a privileged view of the city of Aveiro, the salt flats and the beach.
