The Pico Natural Park is located on Pico Island and has 22 protected areas: Pico Mountain, O Caveiro, Pico Island Vineyard Culture Landscape, São João Mistérios Forest Reserve, Santa Luzia Recreio Forest Reserve, Lajes do Pico Coastal Special Protection Zone and Furnas de Santo António Special Protection Zone for Avifauna.

Pico Mountain is the highest mountain in Portugal, its altitude is higher than any other mountain in the Azores, it was first classified as a reserve (March 1972), and then it was given the status of Natural Reserve (May 12, 1982).

An area of ​​approximately 1500 hectares forms part of the upper part of the volcano and is made up of two sites: the Criação Velha flagstone and the Santa Luzia flagstone, with extensive lava fields characterized by extreme richness and geological and scenic beauty.

The vines that produce Pico wine are planted in cracks in thin basalt benches, and is described as a remarkable pattern of parallel linear walls perpendicular to the rocky coastline where the vines are cultivated on black lava floors, giving the landscape a unique character.

The walls were built to protect the thousands of small, contiguous rectangular plots (called corrals or corraletas) of the reserve from sea water, but letting in the sun necessary for the ripening of the grapes.

In the lower part of its slopes is the Pico Island Vineyard Culture Landscape classified by UNESCO as a world heritage site.

Lajido is a town in the parish of Santa Luzia, municipality of São Roque do Pico, the island of Pico and is made up of old wineries located along the coast surrounded by land used to grow vineyards, particularly Verdelho.

Climbing Pico Mountain is part of the hiking trails on Pico Island, which are governed by principles that must be taken into account so as not to endanger the lives of those ascending the mountain, and that is why the Charter of Principles for Climbing Pico Mountain was created.

The Caveiro Natural Reserve is a Portuguese elevation located in the municipality of Lajes do Pico, Pico Island, it is considered a geological accident that has its highest point at 1076 meters above sea level, and in the vicinity of this formation are Cabeço Raso and Escalvado.

The Leisure Forest Reserve of Mistério de São João is a Portuguese forest park located in the parish of São João, municipality of Lajes do Pico.

This forest park is large and has wooded areas where it is possible to observe several endemic plant species such as the Earth Beech (Myrica faya), the Maritime Pine (Pinus pinaster) which reach a noteworthy height here, and the Incense (Pittosporum undulatum) which in Spring fills the atmosphere with its sweet odor.

The Recreio de Santa Luzia Forest Reserve is a Portuguese forest park located in the parish of Santa Luzia, municipality of São Roque do Pico.

This Forest Park offers appreciable wooded areas where it is possible to observe various plant species such as the tall Maritime Pine, rich clusters of the endemic Earth Beech (Myrica faya) and Incense (Pittosporum undulatum).

The Lajes do Pico Special Protection Zone for Birdlife is located in the coastal area of ​​the municipality of Lajes do Pico, Pico Island, and is provided with legal protection to protect migratory birds and other species that pass through this place.

The Furnas de Santo António Special Protection Zone for Avifauna is located on Pico Island, consists of a cliff, basalt rock islets, a nesting area for seabirds such as the shearwater, the common tern and the rosy tern, and the endemic bat of the Azores (Nyctalus azoreum) can also be found there.
