The Serra da Lousã Biological Park is made up of the largest sample of wildlife in Portugal, located on the slopes of Serra da Lousã, occupying an area of ​​33,000 m2 of National Ecological Reserve.

Along the walk along the Park's paths you will encounter various species of fauna and flora such as: birds of prey (eagles, owls and black vultures), lynxes, wolves, foxes, fallow deer, deer, roe deer, goats and other animals.

Along the route you can walk and enjoy leafy trees such as chestnut trees, oaks and strawberry trees found in the woods and forests of the region.

The animals residing in the Biological Park are raised in a habitat with all the essential stimuli to provide physical and emotional well-being, satisfying their tastes and needs.

Animals and plants are born, grow and die, and the species and number of animals present can vary throughout the year.

The Serra da Lousã Biological Park aims to raise awareness among its visitors, the school community and the general public about the biodiversity that exists in our country and the factors that threaten its survival.

When visiting Serra da Lousã, on foot or in a vehicle, you can observe many traces of wildlife and some specimens of wild fauna.

Visitors can walk and enjoy the natural spaces, observing wildlife such as mammals, birds, reptiles and amphibians, gaining greater knowledge about the nature of the region and mountains.

At the Serra da Lousã Biological Park, visitors can closely observe some captive animals integrated into a forest environment.

The Pedagogical Farm of the Biological Park serves as a “living museum” of the breeds of traditional Portuguese agro-pastoralism where you can discover breeds of cows (Barrosã, Cachena, Marinhoa, Arouquesa and Minhota), goats (Anã and Bravia), sheep (Serra da Estrela pigs (Bísaro and Alentejano), various breeds of chickens, turkeys, guinea pigs and rabbits.

In the space there is the Equestrian Center with a covered and uncovered riding arena where you can watch horses and donkeys.

The park has a wide range of individual activities or programs aimed at groups or schools adapted to the various preferences or objectives of each visitor.

In the park there are several activities such as: animal feeding, traditional games, horse riding, craft workshop (clay, wicker and weaving items), carriage rides, archery, workshop: “Let's make bread" (presents the ingredients used and the way to make the bread).

Serra da Lousã is located just 30 kilometers from Coimbra, right in Central Portugal, and is part of the Portuguese Central Mountain Range, along with Serra do Açor and Serra da Estrela.

Serra da Lousã is part of the Natura 2000 Network with its 15,158 hectares covering the flattened peaks of Serra da Lousã, the quartzite formation of Penedos de Góis (1048 m) and Mata do Sobral, an area of ​​cork oak forests to the north, in Serra de Sacões.

It covers the highest part of the municipalities of Castanheira de Pera, Figueiró dos Vinhos, Góis, Lousã and Miranda do Corvo.

Serra da Lousã is a simply perfect destination for a nature getaway. Visitors can explore the Schist Villages (there are 27 villages) and in each of them they can admire the atmosphere of pure bucolicism decorated by the wonderful landscapes of Central Portugal.

Visitors can venture onto the trails of Aldeias do Xisto and breathe the fresh air of the mountains, hear the murmur of the waters of the countless rivers and streams that flow into idyllic waterfalls and lagoons, and discover the unique cultural heritage.

Serra da Lousã combines nature with the cultural aspect of the Schist Villages: home to deer, wild boar and roe deer that lurk among cork oaks, chestnut trees, oaks and pine trees, crossed by countless walking trails or paths that take us to St. António da Neve, Alto do Trevim, Castelo da Lousã or Sra. da Piedade and the river beaches.
