It is located in the heart of the Douro Internacional Natural Park, on the “cliffs” of the international Douro next to the castro of Aldeia Nova, S. João das Arribas, Miranda do Douro, Portugal

The Viewpoint is a place of extraordinary beauty that allows you to have an absolutely unique view of the Douro River, and in the surrounding area you will also find the castro and the small Chapel dedicated to Saint John and the Picnic Park.

The Castro de Aldeia Nova is a fortified settlement based on a promontory whose defensive system consists of two lines of walls and a turret, and the access point is protected by a wall and probably a moat.

The Castro must have also been used during Roman times as a place of passage where several Roman tombstones were discovered in the chapel of S. João, which is 1500 meters from the castro and has been classified as a National Monument since 1910.

The traces of Romanization are abundant, and include a large number of epigraphs, and correspond to the location where the small sanctuary of São João das Arribas currently stands.

The São João das Arribas Picnic Park has a privileged view of the Douro River and the Castro de S. João das Arribas, and has several tables, benches and even granite grills where you can even make a beautiful Mirandese steak.

The various existing trees provide shade that is appreciated, especially in the summer, and allows you to spend a good time here having a picnic or simply contemplating.

This is a space to calmly enjoy the magnitude of the Arribas do Douro as well as all the history that surrounds this fabulous place.

The viewpoint is located on the “cliffs” of the Douro Internacional, next to the castro and the chapel with the same name, at an altitude of 646 m, you can get magnificent views of the river "canyon" with steep vertical slopes both to the north and south.

Enjoy the vegetation and the birds that fly there, particularly large birds of prey such as griffon vultures.

A beautiful place to enjoy nature with a fantastic view of the Douro River and its slopes, but it is easily accessible with peace, tranquility and very good fresh air.

Access is on dirt road, but in general the road can be traveled by a normal vehicle, the history of Miranda do Douro also passes through here, which is why it is a must-visit place.

The landscape is absolutely fantastic, it is a place to contemplate and marvel at the landscapes, and for those who cannot walk, they have access to an excellent place to see the Douro between rocks and it is worth the detour.

The viewpoint is absolutely stunning, and from the shade of a cork oak you can see the Douro River meandering through the gorges and separating Portugal from Spain, and the natural landscape with stunning views makes us stop in time.

The Miradouro is one of the most emblematic places on the Mirandês Plateau, and has a beautiful landscape that captivates us and invites us to peer into the depths of the escarpment, which is both frightening and beautiful at the same time.

The Viewpoint is a place of exceptional beauty, and impresses us with its grandeur and reveals our smallness in the face of the prodigious beauty of untouched or almost wild nature, and a must-visit place in the “Cold Lands”.

On section 10 of the Route, when leaving the village of Parâmio towards Vilarinho, we cross the Baceiro river via a small bridge where a dam stands out, creating a “swimming pool” ideal for a dip in the middle of the trip.

The Ponte do Rio Baceiro River Beach is a popular place for fishing lovers, especially trout, but on the other hand it is a river beach unsupervised by bathers.
