Pataias Lagoon is a wetland very close to the northern limit of the municipality of Alcobaça,

The water mirror has a major axis of around 400m and a minor axis of around 125m, values ​​that fluctuate depending on whether the year is more or less rainy.

In the extreme northeast there is a runoff water line whose flow also depends on precipitation.

The Lagoon is part of a succession of wetlands that mark the Portuguese coast and is located on a migratory axis for water birds.

Alcobaça City Council, in collaboration with the Portuguese Society for the Study of Birds and with funding from the Ciência Viva – Biologia program, published a publication that highlights six species that stand out for being easily observed throughout the year.
