The City of Aveiro is a Portuguese city, with around 55,000 inhabitants, located in the Centro Region, sub-region of the Region of Aveiro, capital of the district of Aveiro, Portugal
 
The municipality is limited to the north by the municipality of Murtosa (either across the Ria de Aveiro or by land), to the northeast by Albergaria-a-Velha, to the east by Águeda, to the south by Oliveira do Bairro, to the southeast by Vagos and Ílhavo (the limits with the latter municipality also being made by land and across the ria), and with a relatively narrow strip of coastline on the Atlantic Ocean, to the west through the parish of São Jacinto.

The City of Aveiro is an important urban, port, railway, university and tourist center.

The city of Aveiro is located approximately 63 km northwest of Coimbra, 70 km south of Porto, and 255 km from Lisbon.

A territorially discontinuous municipality, as it comprises some river islands in the Ria de Aveiro and a portion of the coastal peninsula (parish of São Jacinto) almost 25 km long that closes the estuary to the west.

The municipality has land and water limits through the Ria with Ílhavo and Murtosa and also borders with Albergaria-a-Velha, Oliveira do Bairro, Vagos and Águeda.

Aveiro Train Station is the focal point on the Northern Line, one hour from Porto and two hours from Lisbon with Alfa Pendular, Intercidades (fast) and urban/suburban and rail commuter trains on the Vouga line.

The city is also served by several roads, highways and even a port: Porto de Aveiro.

The city is a place of discontinuous territory, located at the mouth of the Vouga River, formed by a group of river islands called Ria de Aveiro, the Venice of Portugal, with canals cutting through the city center.

The University of Aveiro has become a reference university due to the high quality of its research, its teaching staff and its infrastructure.

The most important tourist attractions in Aveiro: Aveiro Cathedral, Arte Nova Museum, Largo da Praça do Peixe, Teatro Aveirense, Museu de Santa Joana, Capela de São Gonçalinho, the Aveiro Water Canal, Circular Pedestrian Bridge, Dom Pedro Infante Park, The Natural Reserve of the Dunes of São Jacinto, Aveiro Lighthouse, Museu do Navio Santo André, Oficina Doce, Praia da Barra and Praia da Costa Nova.
